Dugngal Rangdröl Drupchen
Drupchen based on the Dugngal Rangdröl sadhana from the Longchen Nyingthik Treasures:
Patrul Rinpoche received the transmission of the Longchen Nyingthik cycle primarily from Kyabje Drukpa Tulku Rinpoche.
How did it start?
The first Dugngal Rangdröl drupchen was held in Tokyo (Japan) in spring 2019. It was led by Dzogchen Ranyak Patrul Rinpoche, with the presence of Lopön Tsering Gönpo.
Patrul Rinpoche announced that in the future, he will regularly guide drupchens based on the sadhana of Dugngal Rangdröl.
What is it about?
“The Dugngal Rangdröl (Self-Liberation of Suffering) drupchen retreat is associated with Avalokiteshvara, the buddha of compassion.
This time in Japan we have a great opportunity to accomplish the source of all blessings, which is the Drupchen of Dugngal Rangdröl. Among the three roots: lama, yidam and khandro, Dugngal Rangdröl belongs to the practice of the lama in its secret aspect. On the dharmakaya level Dugngal Rangdröl is Buddha Amitabha, on the sambhogakaya level—Avalokiteshvara, and on the nirmanakaya level—Guru Padmasambhava. The meaning of the three roots is as follows: the source of blessings is the lama (guru); the source of all siddhis is the yidam (tutelary deity); the source of all enlightened activity is the khandro (dakini). For that reason, this year, the first accomplishment of the blessings of the inner lama (Rigdzin Düpa) is performed in Dharma City, and the second accomplishment of the blessings of the secret lama (Dugngal Rangdröl) takes place in Japan.
When we meditate according to such a profound sadhana, our meditation becomes deeper, more profound, and more effectively benefit our minds.
During these seven days retreats, practitioners continuously perform the Dugngal Rangdröl sadhana practice (sadhana), offer the feast (tsok) and recite the drupchen prayers and mantra. Mantra recitation is done in a shift system so that everyone can rest between recitations.
The drupchen in Japan takes place in the wonderful place of Sherab Getse Ling that was blessed last year by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who is perceived by Tibetans as the embodiment of Avalokiteshvara.”

Learning how to practice
The particularity of these drupchens is that Patrul Rinpoche has been the first who, year after year, taught Westerners how to perform all aspects of a drupchen sadhana. Patrul Rinpoche is the Vajra Master, sometimes assisted by Lopön Tsering Gönpo as Vajra Assistant, while his students perform all the necessary tasks to perform the sadhana: chant leader (umze), instruments, ritual service (chopön), tormas, etc.
